Nintendo 3DS XL Being Phased Out in Japan

Goodbye original 3DS XL. You've been good to us.
It looks like with the advent of the New Nintendo 3DS, the company will be discontinuing production of the original Nintendo 3DS XL in Japan.

Announced through the company's official Japanese website (and picked up by Siliconera), gamers can see some text under each 3DS model, which, when translated, says 'ending production soon'. This makes sense, as the company has done this in the past with other versions of handhelds, such as the Gameboy Advanced SP replacing the traditional Gameboy Advanced and the Nintendo DS Lite replacing the original Nintendo DS.

No confirmation as to when or if this will happen outside of Japan, though I'm sure we will see more news once the new handheld has launched in the West. For more news on Nintendo, the 3DS and gaming news today, keep your eyes on The Jesters Court.
