Sony Announces New Cloud Based TV Service, Vue

Is Sony trying to steal live TV from Xbox?
Today Sony has unveiled it's newest addition to the PlayStation ecosystem. Titled PlayStation Vue, the new cloud-based TV service will debut on PS4 and PS3 before coming to other non-PlayStation devices, such as iPad.

PlayStation Vue will allow subscription holders to access live and on-demand TV content without a cable of satellite service. On-demand and Catch-up TV services will be offered and viewers can watch popular programming for up to three days past the original air date without the need to schedule a recording.

At the moment, several networks have been lined up, including CBS, Discovery Communications, Fox, NBC Universal and more. Sony will continue to work on bringing more partners to the service as it begins to roll out.

The final cost have not been revealed, however we do know that it will be a month to month subscription, similar to Netflix and Hulu Plus, and will not carry any penalties for cancellation. PS4 and PS3 owners may be invited to the private beta, which will start rolling out this month in New York, followed shortly by Chicago, Philadelphia and Los Angeles. The service will offer roughly 75 channels per market during the beta, including local channels. No word yet as to whether or not the service will be available outside the US.
