Treasure Trove: The Legend of Dragoon

Welcome back, Treasure Seekers. This week I bring you a Japanese turn-based RPG that many of you may missed: The Legend of Dragoon. Relegated to the PSOne for years and having released towards the tail end of the console's life cycle, this JRPG has quite a cult following, but never garnered enough hype and attention to justify a sequel. So listen up as I tell you why you should care about this Final Fantasy clone.

Mobile or Handheld, Sony Needs a Portable Presence

In a 2015 interview at EGX at the time President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida spoke about a successor to the PlayStation Vita not being viable in the current mobile-lead environment. Shortly after the interview hit the internet, the masses followed suite, stating that this is the proof that Sony is bowing out of the handheld race, despite Yoshida-san stating in following interviews that this comment does not confirm there will be no successor to PS Vita.

Regardless of whether he meant for his comments to be seen this way or not, the gaming public is now under the impression that Sony is dropping out of handheld gaming. While some are brokenhearted, many believe this is the only thing the company can do with it's flailing handheld sales. From an immediate financial standpoint, this thought process does have some merit. But Sony  having no mobile or handheld presence will only hurt the industry giant in the long game.

Why Nintendo on Mobile Makes Perfect Sense

Last Monday Nintendo dropped a bomb shell on everyone: the company is going to make mobile games. This is huge news! Not only is Nintendo making games for a piece of hardware that is not developed by the company, but these games will be on a mobile platform. This is also frightening, taking into account that sometime last year a report was published stating that individuals talking with Nintendo at an investor's meeting wanted to release a Mario game on mobile platforms that would require players to pay cash for jumps. But I am ever the optimist, and honestly, you should be too, at least with this news story. Not only is this a smart business decision that will earn Nintendo a lot of money, but it is the best future proofing strategy I have seen from any of the big name hardware developers yet.

Sony Sells Off Sony Online Entertainment, Along With Game Franchises

As of today, Sony Online Entertainment is no more. Sony has sold off the studio/publisher to investment firm Columbus Nova for an undisclosed amount of money.

Sony Teams with Spotify for PlayStation Music

Sony is closing down it's Music Unlimited service in exchange for a brand new program: PlayStation Music. But Sony won't be doing it alone, as the company announced today that Sony will partner with Spotify to create the online music program.

The Last of Us Movie to Have Major Changes From Game

The Last of Us movie is in full swing, according to game and movie writer Neil Drukmann. Despite working on Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, Drukmann is currently working on the script for the movie, and says there are big changes in store.

Monster Hunter With a Grappling Hook, And It's Fantastic - The Freedom Wars Take Your Time Review

Quick Note: With a faster battle system and a unique thorn-grappling hook system, the game play in Freedom Wars is rock solid. It will take a few hours for the game to click and the story can be disjointed, but taking down abductors, whether with friends or alone, feels so damn good. A must buy for Vita owners everywhere.

Years ago I picked up my first Monster Hunter game on PSP. I had heard so many great things about the game, and who doesn't like fighting dinosaur like monsters? After my first hour with the game I was done. From the slow paced combat system to the non-existent story, the game was just not for me. I tried over and over again with different 'hunting' games, including the recent Soul Sacrifice, and repeatedly failed to get into the games. 

So when Freedom Wars was announced, I was less than thrilled. Sure, the style of the game looked cool, but did I really want to put money into another game that I would play for two hours and put down? After rolling the dice and taking the gamble, I'm glad to report that it was well worth it. Not only is Freedom Wars a fantastic take on the 'hunting' style game that I hope is repeated, it is also one of the best online experiences this holiday and probably the best online experience for PS Vita period.
