20 Percent of Players Downloaded Super Smash Bros. for 3DS

The digital future is on the horizon.
Despite how hard it is to get hard numbers on downloads for major game releases on any of the consoles, Nintendo of America president and COO Reggie Fils-Aime has confirmed that 20 percent of purchases for Super Smash Bros. for 3DS were digital.

Speaking with Re/code, Fils-Aime spoke about the high proportion of downloads on the handheld, explaining that, "Smash Bros. for 3DS, consumers wanted that game immediately." Fils-Aime continues, stating, "they didn't even want to spend the time to get in their car and drive to retail to get it, so our digital percent for that game is quite high - 20 percent of the games sold here in the U.S. were digital, which is a pretty significant piece."
