Gamer's Source 2-3-14

Another day, another dollar...for someone at least. Welcome to Gamer's Source, a daily news segment with the top five news stories in gaming today. As always, there are opinions and speculation, so feel free to share your own in the comments. Without further ado...

NUMBER One!

Microsoft is now openly denying that a cheaper SKU of Xbox One will be coming this year. Taking to Twitter, Aaron Greenburg, Chief of Staff for Devices and Studios Group at Microsoft, stated, "no, you can not believe everything you see on the internet." This comment is in direct response to the leaked rumors about a cheaper Microsoft console, specifically by taking out the disc drive on the device.

NUMBER Two!!

The PS4 will be getting a brand new update later this evening. Announced through the PlayStation Blog, update 1.60 will add support for PUSLE and PUSLE Elite headsets for the console. The post also details a new 'Gold Edition' of the headset available soon for $100.

Number THREE!!!

Nintendo has announced a desire for unified platform for all future devices. Coming from the Q & A last week with company president Satoru Iwata said that Nintendo has now unified both its handheld and console gaming departments. This will lead to a more unified approach further on down the road to keep the company competitive.

Thanks IGN!

Number FOUR!!!!

MineCraft has sold over 35 million units. This comes from creator Notch's Twitter, where he released the PC sales number of 14 million units on the platform. Totaling in the 10 million units on mobile and 1 million on PS4, the total amount of units sold comes to 35 million, which is quite a feat for a game people were undercutting years earlier.

NUMBER FIVE!!!!!

Developer Ghost Games has been hit with a series of layoffs. Confirmed by Polygon this morning, the developer of the newest Need for Speed has stated that these layoffs will impact the next game in the series that is currently in development, shelving the title until further notice. My thoughts go out to all those who were effected today.

Well, on that sad note, the news is done for the day. As always, leave your comments below, or on Twitter, where you can find me @Jesterhead0302. And as always, keep the conversation going.
