Everquest Developer Laying Off Large Number of Staff

Earlier this month we learned that Sony is selling off Sony Entertainment Online, which includes developers behind H1Z1 and Everquest. Today, information has surfaced that developer Daybreak, formerly SOE, will be laying off a large portion of it's staff.

According to an unrevealed source that has tipped off Kotaku, a portion of the company's staff at both the San Francisco and Austin offices in order to be "more profitable". An official statement from Daybreak has been released, stating, "This alignment of resources better positions the newly independent studio for future growth opportunities and developments, including delivering on its legacy of making top online games and establishing a solid foundation for future multi-platform success."

My thoughts and best wishes go out to all of those affected. This is a hard time for many, but all of these talented individuals will hopefully be scooped up by the many studios in those areas. For more news on gaming today, keep your eyes on The Jesters Court.
