Treasure Trove - God of War: Ghost of Sparta

Welcome back, Treasure Seekers. It has been a while and I apologize for the delay. For those who are new here, every other week you can find a new underrated or lesser known game to learn about here on Treasure Trove. This week we are diving into a famous PlayStation franchise: God of War. Ghost of Sparta is probably the most overlooked game in the franchise due to it being the second game on the PSP, which released as the PSP was making it's way into a shallow grave, but that doesn't mean it should be ignored. Have a quick listen as to why it is such a pivotal game of the franchise.

Thanks to Konrad "FeniX" Gadzina and Cleyton R. Xavier for the music in this episode and Kenney for the minimal artwork for the logos. Head over to their links to check out more of their great work.

God of War Collection is Great, Albeit some Old School Annoyances

Quick Note: If you haven't played God of War 1 or 2, I highly recommend picking up the collection. It's now $20 - $30 for one old school game that is slightly frustrating and one great game that leads up to God of War 3.

When God of War released it's first demo, I played it for all of five minutes. Maybe it was just my gaming skills at the time or maybe my patience, but I got so frustrated that I quit and vowed I would never play the series out of spite. So God of War released to acclaimed reviews and I passed it up. God of War 2 followed, but again I passed it up. After years I broke down and played God of War 3 (my review here) I have finally come to my senses to play the first two.

Perfect Ending to the Angry Trilogy

When the demo for the first God of War (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God_of_War_%28video_game%29 ) came out, I was in middle school and was an avid Final Fantasy junkie. A friend of mine had just introduced me to Devil May Cry and I decided to pick up the demo for God of War. I couldn't get past battling one Hydra head. I died ten times in five minutes and finally gave up and through the disc (that's right, demo discs) in the trash can. After that I refused to pick up the series. Time passed and God of War II came out as well as the PSP game Chains of Olympus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God_of_War:_Chains_of_Olympus ) but I still didn't want to touch them. For Christmas, my dad accidentally bought me the PSP game and in order to not hurt his feelings (he worked really hard to get me some good games that year) I opened the game and popped it in. After that, my eyes were opened.

Krato's Rage Made Portable Once More

Sometimes a player wants to play a game just to kill something. Sometimes you just want to massacre whatever comes your way. There are plenty of games that let you the player do this, but none are as gorily satisfying as the God of War franchise (here's some information for those of you either stuck under a rock the past few years or ignorant to the world of video games: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God_of_War_%28video_game%29). With three core games under its belt plus the PSP side stories it has been thriving for half a decade, and the inclusion of Ghost of Sparta  is no exception.
