eSport Games on the Rise as Developers Push to Make More of Them

This year's Game Developers Conference Survey has been released, and it has revealed a large leap in developers looking at creating games that can be considered for eSports.

Out of the developers who took the survey, which was picked up by Gamasutra, 12 percent of them said they are currently working on a game they consider to be an eSport. The rise in these competitive, skill-based multiplayer games can be attributed to a rise in the use of streaming services such as Twitch.

"Twitch is making broadcasting competitions very accessible, and high-profile events like Evo are getting more and more attention," wrote one developer. 79 percent of the developers who responded perceive that eSports will be a long-term, sustainable business, and it's not hard to see why.
