Out of the developers who took the survey, which was picked up by Gamasutra, 12 percent of them said they are currently working on a game they consider to be an eSport. The rise in these competitive, skill-based multiplayer games can be attributed to a rise in the use of streaming services such as Twitch.
"Twitch is making broadcasting competitions very accessible, and high-profile events like Evo are getting more and more attention," wrote one developer. 79 percent of the developers who responded perceive that eSports will be a long-term, sustainable business, and it's not hard to see why.
