Speaking in a recent interview with the Associated Press (via Gamespot), Miyamoto-san discussed what would be next for the titular gaming company. "For the time being, our focus is on the Wii U hardware, but Nintendo as a whole has groups working on ideas for new hardware systems," says Miyamoto-san. "While we're busy working on software for the Wii U, we have production lines that are working on ideas for what the next system might be."
Come whatever may, the game designer says he would like to kick off the next console with a brand new Mario game. "I think that maybe when we release the next hardware system, you can look forward to seeing Mario take on a new role or in a new game."
This is not abnormal, as most companies keep a fairly active research and development cycle for the next big thing, but it's exciting to hear the man himself talk about it. For more news on Nintendo, Wii U and gaming today, stay tuned to The Jesters Court.
