Vita Games That Need to Come to the West

There's a secret that a lot of gamers don't know: The PS Vita is awesome. Though the handheld hasn't sold well and Sony has announced that less first party games will be coming to the system, there are still plenty of great games out now for the Vita. The future of this amazing gaming device is in limbo right now, with Sony's uncertain of what to do with the device while most developers are taking a 'wait and see' approach towards development with the system, and that frightens me.

There is so much great about the Vita, and so much potential to be pulled out of the handheld. Japan is finally starting to get why the Vita is so great, as game releases are starting to ramp up in the Land of the Rising Sun. With all the recent and soon to be out releases available for Vita owners, I wanted to point out a few great games that need to come to the West. Not only will these titles add to the already great library the Vita has, I personally believe that these games will be able to help drive sales for the handheld and push developers to creating more games for the system.

Hello and welcome to the Gamer's Source, your destination for gaming conversation. Microsoft is laying off 18 000 jobs and Xbox Entertainment Studios is shutting down. So, without further ado, the news:

The Biggest Tease in Metal Gear to Date

Quick Note: Ground Zeroes is fun and has gotten me excited for Phantom Pain, but with the lack of any real depth outside the combat system, I still can't help but feel a bit disappointed. If you are a fan of the franchise, don't miss it on a sale; Otherwise, you might be better off skipping this one.

Unlike most fans of the series, I hadn't played a Metal Gear Solid game until PS3. My first was Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and I was terrible at it. I would constantly get caught. I couldn't aim or shoot worth a damn. I could not stand the Crying Wolf boss fight. But I could not put the game down. I played through it in a week, getting all the way to the end with more questions than when I started. Since then, I have been hooked.

Jazz, Computers and Combat to Love

Quick Note: Transistor is so good, despite being oddly mis-marketed. For fans looking for action based combat similar to Bastion, you may be disappointed. But the turn based battle system is addictive and upgrade functions are incredibly well thought out. Add in the fantastic music and a $20 price point, you can not go wrong with this incredible game.

Games, like many creative mediums, are inspired by many different influences. Some of these influences are human fantasies, such as having super powers or using gigantic guns to save the world. Some of these influences are story driven, taking movie and book tropes to a new level by adding interactivity. If I had to sum up the influences of Transistor, it would be computer programming and jazz, a combination most would not put together, but one that fits together so perfectly.

A Castle Full of Surprises

Quick Note: Though not the most inspiring game in the world, Castle of Illusions is surprisingly fun. A nice blend of 2D platforming and 3D exploring, Castle of Illusions is well balanced, despite being relatively short. For those looking for a quick game to pick up and play or something nostalgic, this is a great game to play.

Gaming is finally now getting old enough to be able to bring back classics. The original Castle of Illusions was a 2D platformer that released on the Sega Genesis, and now it's time to bring it back int he form of a modern day re-imagining. Castle of Illusions sees Mickey off to save Minnie, who has been captured by an evil old witch and locked away inside a giant castle. The only way to save her is to find the seven rainbow gems and get to the top of the watch tower.  It's a simple premise that is wholly intended to keep the game moving forward, and it works well for that purpose, but is nothing new or imaginative by a long shot.
