NUMBER One!
With the Last of Us reaching sales of over 7 million units, Naughty Dog has announced that there will be new DLC for the game in the coming months. Despite Grounded, the last DLC pack released, being announced as the last piece of add on content, Naughty Dog will release more multiplayer DLC for both PS3 and PS4 and is not ruling out possibly creating more story DLC. The new content will be cross buy for PS3 and PS4, though no further details have been revealed.
This is no surprise what so ever. The Last of Us seems to be Sony's next big franchise as others start ramping down (such as Uncharted 4 being Naughty Dog's last Uncharted). Though I personally never delved into the multiplayer, many gamers have been enamored by it and more DLC will just keep them coming back for more. Personally, I would love some more story DLC, but that does seem like a long shot.
NUMBER Two!!
Speaking of The Last of Us: Remastered, it has been officially announced that there will be no 'upgrade discount' for fans who own the PS3 version of the game. The news comes from Fred Dutton, manager of the PS Blog's European branch. The final decision has been made after Sony dropped the price of the game by $10 down to $49.99.
This will upset many fans, but it's the price of gaming. The upgrade for $10 plan Sony implemented when the PS4 launched was probably a special case we won't see again, as Sony wanted to ensure the sale of the new games at $60, but also wanted players to buy a PS4 and have games to play on it. It doesn't make much sense for Naughty Dog to put a years worth of time and money for Sony to sell the game at $10 for upgrade, especially when the PS3 version of the game is $39.99 right now. It's a shame for fans (like myself) who already own the PS3 game, but speak with your wallet. Personally, I love the game enough to buy it all over again. If you think it's worth the $50, do it. Otherwise, keep your money and show Sony that you don't think it is worth it without the upgrade.
Number THREE!!!
Nintendo has revealed the next set of awards for Club Nintendo members. Platinum and Gold members can expect to clean up real well this month, with all rewards being digital games, including EarthBound for Platinum members and Metroid for Gold members. To become a Gold member, players need to rack up 300 coins by July 31st and 600 coins to become a Platinum member. To see the full list, check out here.
This seems to be Nintendo's solution to PS Plus and Games with Gold, and in a way it's ingenious. Though not as robust as PS Plus, it is still offering free games to own and gives the players a large library to choose from. This service is technically free, but gamers need to purchase games to obtain coins, so it's pretty genius on Nintendo's part. Now all they need to do is include bonuses more often to rival PS Plus and I think Nintendo could really pull ahead.
Number FOUR!!!!
The grand prize winners of Girls Make Games have launched a Kickstarter. The seven high school girl group, called The Negatives, who took the 1st place spot plan to move their top down RPG 'The Hole Story' to the Google Play Store August 2014. Thanks Mitch from IGN for the story.
The success of these girls and the Girls Make Games competition is pretty awesome. I personally just wanted to advocate this story to help promote their hard work. If you have a few bucks and no qualms with Kickstarter, you should really consider giving the game a few dollars to help.
